About the magpie...

Magpie Caterers is the culmination of Janel Inouye and Ed Roehr's life's work together growing, preparing and serving great food. Janel and Ed are both Sacramento natives, and bring their love and appreciation of California-grown ingredients, worldwide culinary influences and each other's special talents to each event. Prior to starting Magpie Caterers, Ed and Janel spent the better part of six years catering in the California central coast and the south bay area. They have catered a wide range of events from intimate plated dinners to festive weddings of over two hundred guests.

Janel Inouye has organized and supervised many catered events over the years giving her the ability to bring great ideas to fruition for her clients. In addition to catering, she served cocktails at the Awhanee Hotel in Yosemite, dinners in Honolulu and organized catering and sales for a private charter sailboat. She has managed a local café and has an easy rapport with clients and staff alike.

Ed Roehr has spent most of his life in the kitchen—he has worked as a sous chef for small restaurants and training chef for an upscale steakhouse. He started his restaurant career prepping food and scrubbing pots at age 14. His culinary wanderlust led him from Sacramento to the Bay Area, Chicago to Hawaii. Ed spent a year in a small trattoria in Venice, Italy, where he absorbed a solid repertoire of Italian classics and Venetian specialties. Ed's calm demeanor and vast knowledge make everyone around him feel confident and secure.

Together, Ed and Janel are Magpie Caterers. A bit eclectic but always discriminating. They bring their love of food, cooking and catering back to Sacramento, where it all began. We have great friends and family here; it's a place where so many of our needs are fed, and where we can feed others with the best of ingredients and client focus.
