About the Magpie

The yellow-billed magpie (Pica nuttalli)—pictured in our logo—is native to the Sacramento area and is one of two species in the state not found outside of California. It is easily identifiable by its bright yellow bill and contrasting black and white coloration. Magpies are gregarious and social birds with voracious appetites. They are known to nest and roost in large groups and return year after year to their bulky nests.
